Terry McAuliffe Statement on Glenn Youngkin’s Call for an Audit of Election Machines Nine Months After the Deadly Insurrection on the U.S. Capitol

MCLEAN, VA – Terry McAuliffe today released the following statement on Glenn Youngkin’s continued push to bring Donald Trump’s election conspiracies to Virginia nine months after the January 6 insurrection:

“Glenn Youngkin’s priorities are clear: he is running for governor to bring Donald Trump’s dangerous conspiracy theories to Virginia. At a time when Virginians are worried about good jobs, a quality education and the rising costs of health care, Glenn has called his Trumpian election integrity plan the “most important issue.” He’s endorsed Donald Trump for president in 2024, and he refuses to let go of Trump’s 2020 election conspiracy theories. Now, nine months after the deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol brought on by these same Trump lies, Glenn is again casting doubt on election results and putting Trump’s conspiracy theories first. This behavior is dangerous and it’s disqualifying.”

Glenn Youngkin has focused his entire candidacy on promoting Donald Trump’s lies and even suggested that Trump could be reinstated into office. He launched his campaign with an “election integrity” task force, which he has called the “most important issue” facing Virginians. This week, he calledfor an “audit” of election machines in Virginia — nine months after the deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol spurred on by the same theories. Youngkin spent months this year denying the results of the 2020 election and even headlined an insurrectionist-sponsored “election integrity” rally this summer.
