MCLEAN, VA – Terry McAuliffe today announced he raised a record $6.1 million in 2020, more than any Virginia gubernatorial candidate in an off-year in history. Terry raised $4.5 million in the most recent reporting period, including 1,000+ donations in the first 24-hours after announcing his candidacy on December 9, and ended the year with $5.5 million cash on hand. More than 9,000 donors have contributed to Terry for Virginia, with support from all of Virginia’s 133 cities and counties, and more than 90% of donations were under $100.

Terry is building a broad coalition of support for his big, bold vision to build a stronger, more equitable Virginia. “I’m running for governor because we need to think big and act boldly to create a better, more equitable future for all Virginians. My campaign is building a strong coalition with a shared vision to move Virginia forward, and I am proud to have the support of so many Virginians from across the Commonwealth,” said Terry McAuliffe. “The next governor of Virginia must rebuild the post-COVID economy, develop the best workforce in the nation, invest in education, and create a clear path to the middle class. As governor, I will go big and bold to create a stronger Virginia because our future and our children cannot wait.”

Prominent leaders from across Virginia have already endorsed Terry and his bold vision to build a more equitable Commonwealth. Senate President Pro Tempore L. Louise Lucas (Portsmouth), House Majority Leader Charniele Herring (Alexandria), and Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney are leading Terry for Virginia as campaign co-chairs.

Terry has also been endorsed by numerous legislative leaders, including: Speaker of the House of Delegates Eileen FIller-Corn (Fairfax County), House Appropriations Committee Chair Luke Torian (Prince William County), Senate Majority Leader Richard Saslaw (Fairfax County, Cities of Falls Church and Alexandria), Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee Chair Janet Howell (Fairfax & Arlington Counties), Senator Lionell Spruill (Chesapeake & Norfolk), House Education Committee Chair Delores McQuinn (Richmond City, Chesterfield, Charles City, Henrico), House Transportation Committee Chair Roslyn Tyler (Brunswick, Greensville, Lunenburg, Southampton, Sussex, Emporia, and Franklin), Delegate Don Scott (Portsmouth), Delegate Cliff Hayes (Chesapeake & Virginia Beach), Delegate Alex Askew (Virginia Beach), Delegate Mike Mullin (Newport News, Norfolk, and James City and York Counties), Delegate Martha Mugler (Hampton, Poquoson & York County), and Delegate Steve Heretick (Chesapeake, Norfolk & Portsmouth).

More than 100 educators from across Virginia are among the grassroots donors fueling Terry’s campaign. Terry launched his campaign for governor in December by announcing his plan to make the biggest, boldest investment in education in Virginia history. Through a new $2 billion annual investment in education, Terry will dramatically and immediately increase teacher pay and ensure that every Virginia student has access to an equitable, world-class education.

Since launching his campaign, Terry has also unveiled bold plans to create an equitable post-COVID economy and ensure Virginians have access to regular nutritious meals. As Virginia’s next governor, he will take bold and decisive action to create jobs, protect workers, invest in mental health services, and rebuild Virginia’s thriving network of small businesses, particularly Black and Brown-owned businesses.
