Richmond Times-Dispatch: Letter to the Editor, April 1, 2021: Asian-American veteran praises McAuliffe’s help

By Anthony Gitaldo

As a former member of the Virginia Asian Advisory Board and a veteran, it is hard to describe how I feel about what is going on in our country. It’s hard to not feel exhausted, emotionally drained and tired of being tired.

Former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe has been a strong voice against this AAPI hate and has used his platform to speak out. I was very glad to see McAuliffe released a statement condemning violence saying: “Hateful acts and inflammatory rhetoric toward the Asian American Pacific Islander community have risen dramatically during the COVID-19 pandemic, putting countless Americans at risk, and it must stop.”

He also hosted a conversation on Facebook Live with AAPI leaders to discuss how to combat anti-AAPI hate. He elevated the voices of AAPI leaders. He listened. We need our next governor to stand up for us like McAuliffe has and that’s why I’m glad to be supporting him for governor. I know he has our back. McAuliffe is the leader we need, and he has demonstrated it.
