NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Cites Terry’s Commitment to Paid Family Leave, Affordable Healthcare, and Reproductive Freedom
MCLEAN, VA – The board of NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia, a pioneering group for reproductive freedom, has today endorsed Terry McAuliffe for Governor of Virginia. NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia is a grassroots state-level organization with thousands of members advocating for freedom to access safe abortion and birth control, an end to pregnancy discrimination, and paid family leave for all. NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia cites Terry’s leadership on reproductive rights, his record of stopping Republican attacks on reproductive health clinics, and his commitment to enshrine the decades-old protections of Roe v. Wade in the Virginia Constitution as reasons for the endorsement.
“NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia knows that we can count on Terry McAuliffe to fight for reproductive freedom on all fronts. The battle ahead to protect our reproductive rights in this country is facing an unprecedented challenge that could upend our most fundamental freedoms in the next year. However, Virginia has an amazing opportunity to create a safe haven no matter what the Supreme Court does to Roe v. Wade but it won’t be easy. That’s why it is so important to elect Terry McAuliffe as our next governor and hold our pro-choice majority across the statewide offices and the House of Delegates this November. We know Terry McAuliffe will again stand as a brick wall to attacks on abortion and will fight to increase access to reproductive healthcare for every Virginian,” says NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Executive Director Tarina Keene. “Terry McAuliffe has been here before and he knows how to get the job done. Virginians can rest assured that Governor McAuliffe has their back when it comes to standing up for their right to make personal medical decisions that are best for themselves and their families. We are excited to fight alongside Terry McAuliffe and help send him back to the Governor’s mansion in November.”
“Virginians deserve to have a governor who will always fight to protect their reproductive freedoms. That’s what I did before when I stood as a brick wall against extreme Republicans attacks and successfully kept reproductive health clinics from closing, and it’s what I will always do,” said Terry McAuliffe. “With a conservative Supreme Court poised to hack away at the right to choose and Trump-endorsed Glenn Youngkin promising to go on ‘offense’ to attack reproductive rights if he’s elected, the stakes have never been higher. I’m proud to have the support of NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia in my campaign, and together we will continue to defend access to critical health services in the commonwealth.”
Terry has also been endorsed by numerous other prominent major national and local organizations, including Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia, Giffords, Brady PAC, NRDC, Emgage Virginia, the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), CASA in Action, the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA), UNITE HERE Local 23, and SMART union.
Since launching his campaign, Terry has released 17 detailed plans to strengthen Virginia’s education system and dramatically increase teacher pay, help secure Virginia’s economic recovery from COVID-19, reform our criminal justice system, ensure Virginians have access to regular nutritious meals, address the broken, predatory system of prescription drug pricing, confront the gun violence epidemic, make Virginia the best state in the nation for Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Health Care (STEM-H) and computer science education, tackle the housing crisis in the Commonwealth and invest in Virginia’s workforce in the post-COVID economy, ensure Virginians have access to high-quality, affordable health care, tackle climate change and secure Virginia’s clean energy future by 2035, lift up Black Virginians as the Commonwealth rebuilds from the COVID-19 pandemic, further advance LGBTQ+ rights, create a flourishing rural economy, support entrepreneurial ecosystems, tackle rising costs and meet the health care needs, and make higher education more affordable.
